What is overcome?
Overcome: Nutrition and Fitness Coaching is a fitness, nutrition, and behavior change coaching practice based in Richmond, Virginia. Founded by Coach Nathan Rhodes, Overcome is now celebrating five years in business, working with clients at every stage of the process: from those stepping into a gym for the first time to experienced athletes who have hit a wall.
Five years in this industry is not a given. Coaching businesses come and go, and most coaches exit long before they find their footing. Overcome is still here because the approach works, and because the people who show up keep getting results.
Our Mission
Overcome exists to help people take back control of their health.
Most fitness programs are built for ideal conditions. When those conditions break down under the demands of work, family, stress, or a difficult stretch of life, the program tends to go with it. That is not a motivation problem. It is a design problem.
Overcome is built around the reality that life is the context. The goal is a coaching relationship that produces progress not just in good weeks, but in average and difficult ones. The name reflects that: not fighting against your health, but reclaiming it on terms that fit how you actually live.
Our Approach
The individual comes first.
Programming at Overcome starts with the person, not a template. Schedule, stress, training history, and lifestyle all factor into how a plan is designed and adjusted over time.
Education, not prescription.
Clients leave coaching sessions understanding why, not just what. The objective of every ONFC coach is for each client to develop genuine competence in managing their own health.
Evidence-based methods.
Programming and nutrition guidance at Overcome are grounded in current research. Coach Nathan draws from some of the most rigorous and respected institutions in the field, and continues to study alongside the work or leading industry experts.
A results-driven environment.
One of the reasons Overcome has been proud to host training sessions at CoreFitness RVA since ‘22 is because the environment and culture of the gym. Everyone who attends and joins this fitness community all are training with their specific goals in mind, striving to be better than they were the day before.

Meet Coach Nathan
Nathan Rhodes has been training and studying fitness for over a decade, has been coaching for over seven years, and has spent the last five years building Overcome from the ground up to better serve the Richmond community.
Nathan’s path to fitness was not linear, as most aren’t. Growing up, he dealt with poor eating habits, a difficult relationship with his body, and years of feeling like something was fundamentally broken. What changed was not a specific program he downloaded from a random influencer or a special diet “no one wants you to know about.”
It was deciding to take back ownership of his health.
Overcome exists because Coach Nathan knows what it feels like to carry that weight and still want more.
His unique combination of artistic and analytical background paired with genuine investment in his clients (and some ADHD for good measure) shape every aspect of the coaching relationship.
